Headline data

Source: Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy

Geographical Area: North West England

Unit of Measurement: Watts per capita

Footnote:

This table provides metadata for the actual indicator available from St Helens statistics closest to the corresponding global SDG indicator. Please note that even when the global SDG indicator is fully available from St Helens statistics, this table should be consulted for information on national methodology and other St Helens-specific metadata information.

Goal

Goal 12: Ensure sustainable consumption and production patterns

Target

Target 12.a: Support developing countries to strengthen their scientific and technological capacity to move towards more sustainable patterns of consumption and production

Indicator

Indicator 12.a.1: Installed renewable energy-generating capacity in developing countries (in watts per capita)

Organisation

Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy, Office for National Statistics

Definition and concepts

Solar PV - The direct conversion of solar radiation into electricity by the interaction of light with the electrons in a semiconductor device or cell.

Bioenergy - renewable energy made from material of recent biological origin derived from plant or animal matter, known as biomass.

AD - Anaerobic Digestion is a natural process in which microorganisms break down organic matter, in the absence of oxygen, into biogas (a mixture of carbon dioxide (CO2) and methane) and digestate (a nitrogen-rich fertiliser). The biogas can be used directlyin engines for Combined Heat and Power (CHP), burned to produce heat, or can be cleaned and used in the same way as natural gas or as a vehicle fuel.
